Welcome!
Welcome to Preserving Abundance. This site is dedicated to preserving not just the abundance of our farms, fields and orchards but also to preserving the abundance of knowledge that our grandparents possessed and that which we are in grave danger of losing. As you navigate through the site you’ll find videos on everything from food preservation to bee-keeping to recipes. You will also find reviews of our favorite websites, books and documentaries. We also hope to have links to places you can buy some of my favorite supplies and equipment.
The site incorporates themes from two things which are very important to me. The first is our farm. Barefoot Farm isn’t big or fancy and it doesn’t make much money in the grand scheme of things. It does however, provide our family with wholesome, organic fruits and vegetables and provides a home to our pigs, chickens and bees. You can watch us throughout the year as we press cider, extract honey, make candles and plant our garden. We make mistakes (actually, we make a lot of mistakes) but we plan to show you those too. Maybe seeing ours will help you avoid making the same ones.

The second thing near and dear to us is my book. Just In Case: How To Be Self-Sufficient When The Unexpected Happens (Storey Publishing) is my attempt to teach people about family preparedness. I believe that a lot of people have gotten used to the idea that “somebody” will take care of them. “Somebody” will be sure they eat and stay warm. Maybe they will. Maybe they won’t. One thing is for certain. If I don’t need “somebody” to take care of me, there will more help available for the truly needy. Besides, learning how to take care of ourselves is fun.
I hope you visit often as new information will be cropping up on a pretty regular basis. If you want to comment on something you see or read here, we can be contacted through our email. So thanks for dropping in. Come back soon!
